Welcome to Sabzian’s New Website!
Next year, Sabzian celebrates its tenth anniversary. We’re proud to kick off the next decade with a completely new website. The first and main aim of this all-new design is to make our growing archive more visible and accessible, not least through a number of new features such as the Film Index, Issues, Collections, Screening Room, Audio Room and a further elaborated Search function.
Ten years of Sabzian prompts retrospection but, first and foremost, looking forward. Founded in 2014 by a group of Belgian filmmakers from the conviction that reflection and criticism are inextricably linked to the art of cinema and the practice of filmmaking, Sabzian has grown today into a broad-based film organisation with a whole range of online and offline activities. As such, we are pleased that our tradition of the State of Cinema has today grown into an important national and international cinephile event and that this year we can welcome the French filmmaker Alice Diop. Hope to see you all there!
With the exception of the printed publications, all texts and information on Sabzian are and remain accessible free of charge. The platform relies on the work of a group of dedicated volunteers. We could still use your support. If you value our work, please consider a donation.
New Features on the Website
The Film Index presents Sabzian’s accruing database of film pages. Each film page is a scrapbook of references, quotes and reading suggestions. This archive is now finally consultable and searchable.
Issues are compilations of texts and translations relating to a specific director, film or theme. More occasional compilations of texts and film pages are housed under Collections. In the coming weeks, we will regularly publish new Collections.
In our News section, we now likewise offer an overview of all previous New Book Releases and the monthly Belgian Premiers & Festivals.
In the Screening Room, Sabzian occasionally presents online screenings of films, available worldwide for a short period of time. Films and videos of introductions, lectures and conversations that remain permanently available can also be found here. Our audio offerings, such as episodes of the Bandwagon, our irregular series of film-related mixes, can be found in the Audio Room.
Our occasional cinephile Publications that accompany screenings, events and retrospectives can now also be ordered online.
Existing elements such as Texts, Agenda and our Search function were further elaborated and specified to make their functioning more convenient and accessible. The Author and Director pages were also further developed and linked together.
