Classics Restored Festival
In the weekend of March 8–10, the brand new Classics Restored Festival takes place at KASKcinema in Gent and Kunstencentrum BUDA in Kortrijk. The festival is made up of nine recent digital restorations and a program of slapstick & animation films. Various experts will introduce all screenings and shed light on the unique (material) history of the films and their restoration. In Gent, the festival closes with the continental premiere of the CINEMATEK restoration of Chantal Akerman's rarely screened Histoires d’Amérique (1989). CINEMATEK took care of or contributed to some of the other restorations as well, such as the one of the opening film, Detour (Ulmer, 1945), that was made possible thanks to the nitrate copy in their vaults.
